Welcome to MVPC Preschool
Preschool Calendar and Important Dates

The Preschool year will run from Labor Day to Memorial Day. There may be opportunity for an extended year during the summer break. MVPC Preschool generally will follow the Fairfax County Public School’s schedule. A more detailed calendar will be provided to families at beginning of the school year. Preschool begins at 9:00 in the morning. Students may start arriving at 8:55. Dismissal is promptly at 12:00 Noon. (Arriving to pick-up your child after the dismissal time will result in a fine.*) Any questions should be directed to the Preschool Office at (703) 765-7867

Layout of the MVPC Preschool
The MVPC Preschool is located at 2001 Sherwood Hall Lane, Alexandria, VA 22306.

MVPC Preschool is centrally located on Sherwood Hall Lane between Route 1 and the George Washington Parkway, and is located four (4) miles south of I-95 and I-495 (Capitol Beltway). The church and the Preschool are readily accessible via Sherwood Hall Lane from Richmond Highway, Fort Hunt Road, and the Mount Vernon Parkway. A dedicated driveway and parking lot serve the preschool during the week with a safe, lighted drop-off location interior to the parking lot.

The church campus occupies approximately 3 1/2 acres of gently sloping, wooded land in the midst of the residential community of Sherwood Hall Estates. Buildings include the original sanctuary, a former horse barn on the dairy farm that originally occupied the property, a sanctuary that can seat 350, adjoining administrative offices, a two-level Christian Education Building (CEB) with nine class/activity rooms and handicapped- accessible restrooms, and an adjoining Fellowship Hall that seats 250 with its associated commercial-grade kitchen on the upper level, and three more class/activity rooms plus offices, a computer lab and resource rooms on the lower level.

Preschool Advisory Board
The Preschool Advisory Board shall consist of nine members. Six shall be members of Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, two shall be parents of children enrolled in Preschool, and one shall be a teacher or assistant from the Preschool. In addition, the Preschool Director and Pastor (ex officio member) will attend the meetings.

The purpose of the Preschool Advisory Board is a governing body for the Preschool. Board members oversee the policies and expenditure of funds necessary for the Preschool to be a safe and secure learning program that is fiscally solvent. In addition, the Preschool Advisory Board oversees, guides, and supports the staff, curriculum, and students of the Preschool.

Our Teachers
Our pupil-teacher ratio will be no more than 10:1 and ideally, 6:1.

MVPC Preschool teachers will:
  • have experience interacting with young children
  • have preferably earned a degree in early childhood education or similar field
  • be active within their Christian faith-based community
  • believe in the mission and curriculum of the preschool
  • be creative, caring, and enthusiastic individuals.
  • In each classroom there will be a teacher along with a teaching assistant.


Teaching assistants will:
  • show enthusiasm about early childhood education
  • be active within their Christian faith-based community
  • believe in the mission and curriculum of the preschool
  • work well as a team player
  • show initiative to complete tasks
  • be a creative, caring, and energetic individual.

Note: Staff will be certified annually by a practicing physician to be free from any disability that would prevent them from caring for children. Staff will also receive training in child abuse awareness, CPR, and first aid.
