PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN

The Presbyterian Women......

.........commit themselves to prayer and Bible study, supporting mission, working for peace and justice and building community with others. The PW operate on a calendar where our year ends in June and we take a break for the summer. We start up again in the fall. We hope that we have enriched other lives and have been encouraged as we do the following in a typical year:

  • We prepare and serve dinner for Agape Reservoir five times during the year.
  • In January, at our annual Mission Work Day, we assemble health kits, school kits, baby kits, trim Campbell product labels, and send valentine cards to our college students. Several members attend the PW/NCP Prayer Breakfast, which is always an inspiration.
  • In February, the Presbyterian Women conduct the Worship Service.
  • In March, MVPC sponsors Church Women United (CWU) World Day of Prayer.
  • In April, several members attend the PW/National Capital Presbytery Spring Gathering.
  • In May we celebrate CWU Friendship Day.
  • In June, we collect the Birthday Offering. This is a special offering collected each year to celebrate the blessings in the lives of Presbyterian Women. The money collected is given in grants to from 3 to 5 recipients, selected in advance by a committee, based on their applications and need.
  • Circles hold two joint meetings in June, with both daytime and nighttime circles meeting together.
  • Also in June, several PW members attend the PW Synod of the Mid-Atlantic Summer Gathering at Massanetta, for further study and enrichment.
  • September is time for our overview about our collection for Sunnyside Links of Love that enables residents to continue in the retirement community, even if they are unable to pay.
  • In October we start our regular Circle meetings.
  • In November we prepare Shoe Boxes for the Samaritan’s Purse. PW also sponsors the Sharing Tree which families of the church fill with mittens, socks, and other items for Monloch House.
  • In December the circles sponsor the Advent Dinner with Wednesday Night Live and collect for our Thank Offering. The Thank Offering is a PW offering collected each year that gives women a tangible way to express their gratitude for the special blessings in their lives. The circles also donate to our FIT program and collect monies for the families.
  • We donate through our Pete the Pig offering which is given to the American Leprosy Mission.

Some circles have their own projects such as donating diapers and cereal for Monloch House.

We invite each of you who is not already a part of PW to join us.
