SUNDAY SCHOOL (STEPS)

What is STEPS?
The STEPS program is our Sunday morning educational program that is designed to intrigue the learning styles of children in grades 1-6. Children at this age level spend several weeks intensely learning a key story from the New or Old Testament. This workshop rotation model for Christian education offers children numerous advantages:

  • Children learn in different ways, using all their senses. So we engage them in different ways, too. One week they may act out the story in a play or use puppets; the next through art, games, cooking, music, dance, or other fun activities.
  • Intensive learning of a single story over several weeks reinforces what the children have learned in preceding weeks and helps them see connections between the stories. It also means that they will not miss a key Bible story when they miss a Sunday.
  • Different adults lead each STEPS activity in a unit. Children get to know many adults in the church, and every teacher gets to know all the children.
  • It provides a solid foundation for children as they enter their teenage years and confirmation classes, where they engage in more advanced exploration of the meaning of Scripture and their understanding of Christian beliefs and practices.

Church school classes are held from 9:45 – 10:45. Please arrive on time so your child does not miss the gathering time and so you can drop them off before you go to your adult education Sunday School class that is called Faith Journeys.
