ABOUT CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
Mount Vernon Presbyterian invites you to learn to bear fruit in Christ by participating in our Christian education programs. Sunday morning programs for all ages begin at 9:45 and end at 10:45. Please note: Whenever an age or grade placement is indicated, the age or grade placement is as of September 30 for the school calendar year.

For birth through age 3, the nursery is run by loving and experienced staff and can be found in the southeast corner of the CE building, just off the fellowship hall. The nursery is staffed from 8:30 a.m. until just after the 11 a.m. service, except during the summer, when attendants are present during the one 10 a.m. service.

Children age 3 through kindergarten meet Sunday mornings on the lower level of the CE building. This year, the preschool/kindergarten class has a curriculum called Live B.I.G., which features a parrot named Bongo, Mr. Z, and Ms. Lucy, who introduce the lesson, Bible verses, and songs with movement. The curriculum includes related craft activities and Bible stories.

Children in grades 1 through 6 begin in the gathering room on the lower level for STEPS (Stories Told Experienced Practiced Shared). They then split into two groups and spend several weeks exploring one Bible story in depth through many different units, such as art, drama, games, cooking, computers, and videos. This workshop rotation style of learning takes a multiple-intelligences approach to learning the stories of faith: It engages all the senses and encourages children to put themselves in the stories.

Youth grades 7 through 12 meet on the lower level of the CE building.

Adults have many options for Christian education on Sunday mornings, with classes that meet on the upper level of the CE building.
